For "Divi". We're adopting 2 kittens from Aruba and one will be named Divi. I always thought it was "Divi" with a short i but my hubby thinks it might be "Deevie"

"Divi" is correct but many people say "Deevie" or "Divi-Divi", the old name. The official name is "Divi Aruba All Inclusive".

If you call the resort management in North Carolina they call it Divi with two short i"s. The staff at the resorts call it DEVE with two long e's. (That is more of a carribean accent thing) They are a US based corporation and I was told that the correct pronunciation is Divi by the staff here in the States.

Not that any of this matters except for how you want to call your cat!

Not that any cat comes when it's called, unless you have something it wants. And then kitty kitty usually works for any cat.

And before you ask, yes, I own dogs!!!

Thanks again everyone. And Oakley, all of my cats have known their names. And I've had ALOT of cats in my life.

But, we decided to change the name again   (for the 3rd and final time) to Mango instead.

But it's nice to know that I'm pronouncing the word correctly.

The corporation may be US based but the tree from whence it gets its name is native Aruban flora. I submit that the Aruban pronunciation is the correct one.
